Gloriana's Court

Intro to Medieval Topics

Elizabeth G. Melillo, PhD, who has ties to both London and New York City, believes that being a jester is her happiest goal in life. In this site, Elizabeth reproduces "Gloriana's Court," an introduction to medieval topics which she began in 1996.

Elizabeth is author of a Kindle book on Amazon.co.uk, entitled "Divinity Cheek." She jokes, ""I hardly am an 'author' because of one self-published work in the modern version of a vanity press, but, if I make 10 theology nerds laugh, I've accomplished a goal of adding joy to the world."

She worked for Roman Catholic and Anglican churches for over 30 years, and was a business manager for a major archdiocese for 21, and many anecdotes in her book stem from varied experience, in everything from poor Franciscan churches to posh Anglican . Elizabeth enjoys laughing at herself and the world. As a baby boomer, she's survived everything from endless choruses of Kumbaya (the ultimate penance of the 1960s) to brow-beating on planning committees. :)

Elizabeth jokes that her theme song, common to those in arts and humanities, is 'Here's to the Losers, Bless them All.' As is true of 100K talented people each year, she ended up in fields she'd never imagined, just for the bread and butter. Elizabeth holds a BA in Music (Opera), MA in Musicology, and PhD in Humanities. The reflections in "Divinity Cheek" often are those which she pondered when she was earning her divinity degree through Heythrop College, University of London, which she was awarded 30 years after her Master's.
